Then and Now

Our family loves the "Then and Now" photos. We took the kids back to this fun park in the Berkley hills this weekend just as a break from the stress of this new year of homeschooling in a different program and the craziness of life. Kate wanted a picture on the same bridge where we had taken the kid's pictures years ago. The kids wanted to arrange themselves in the same way they had been in the first picture. Izzy, our oldest, had just sprained her ankle in a "friendly" basketball game we had played at the park we had just come from an hour or so ago. That's right we did a park "bang bang" two parks back to back. Anyway, this friendly basket ball game of boys against girls, ended up in a bloody nose for me and a sprained ankle for Izzy, but the boys won! Izzy couldn't walk around to get to the park or the bridge so I had to give her a piggy back ride wherever we went. She is not quite as easy to transport this way as she used to be :P With full family cooperation and some photoshop fun we got our shot! here's to many more years of good family fun in the Lord and around the camera. We are blessed!

Let’s have some fun!

It was my youngest daughter’s last day to be five years old. The next day we would celebrate her 6th birthday. It’s our family tradition to take a picture of the kids holding their “Last Day ?” sign and I will sometimes use that as an excuse to have some fun with my gear. After Izzy, My oldest got Viv, The birthday girl, all dressed up and made up for the shoot we loaded our wagon with lighting gear and headed to the park for a nice location. on the way we spotted some beautiful fluffy foliage and Izzy thought it would make good wings for the pic. I wasn’t sure how she was going to make them work with the fancy dress Vivie was dressed in but why not let her try? I wanted a sunset shot with the sun setting behind Viv, but we had lost the sun already. I guess I was going to make my own ;) All the kids got totally into the shoot, helping me hold down light stands and give Vivie posing prompts, and although there is no last day sign in this shot, I love it the most because Vivie was really hamming it up.

Congratulations!

Congratulations J.T. and Kaya! I pray that God bless you and your marriage. It was so exciting to celebrate with the new couple and their family. Dinner, Dancing, Cake, Bowling and Bocce, what more could you want for your wedding party? A great time was had by all. I had a blast bringing out my “Fun Lights” on the dance floor. when the dance floor is big enough you can really have some fun with your photography. I got to play with colored accent strobes, large soft lighting modifiers and shutter drag to create colorful lights streaking across the frame. This really added to capturing the vibe of the party. I can’t wait to finish the pictures and send them, off to the family.

Happy Quince!

I had the pleasure to join the Eliana and her family for her Quinceañera a couple of weeks ago at Pinstripes in San Mateo. Eliana was a beautiful princess inspired by Disney's Princess and the frog. Every one had a fantastic time, DJ Manny kept the dancefloor hoppin' and the food was fantastic. Taking Pictures of everyone having such a good time is what I love to do. Capture the memories as they happen and you will always be able to look back and remember the good times you’ve had with family and friends.

Change it Up!

We took a family Hike to Castle Rock on Labor day weekend. One of my daughters remembered me talking about how we should try to get family portraits where we are not all posed in a standard tight group as is traditional. She thought this tree that was being overtaken by a massive vine would be a fun opportunity to try something different. She is the one at the top of the picture. I'm not sure what that face was supposed to represent, but good idea girly! Enjoy the years you have with them when there still young, They'll be grown before we know it.

It’s almost Fall!

It's Almost Fall! Take some Photos. Sometimes you just have to stop what you're doing and take a picture break. As I raked up all the leaves in the front yard and was getting ready to throw them in the bin, I thought of what a wasted opportunity that would be. I ran in, grabbed the kids and said "let's have some fun!" They were all in and even changed clothes up for shot.
